Global Takaful Group
ASEAN Takaful Group, (ATG) was formed on 28 October 1995 as in informal body or association to enhance greater mutual co-operation among Takaful operators in Malaysia, Republic of Indonesia, Negara Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore of which the founder members are Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Takaful Nasional Sdn Bhd, PT Asuransi Takaful Umum, PT Asuransi Takaful Keluarga, Insurans Islam Taib Sendirian Berhad and Takaful IBB Berhad.
In general, the main objectives of ATG are:
- To promote a tangible vehicle of cooperation among ASEAN Takaful operators.
- To provide a conduit for exchange of information on all facets of Takaful operation among ASEAN Takaful operators.
- To develop and promote the types of Takaful business adopted in the ASEAN Region as the role model.
The first Secretariat of ATG was held by Syarikat Takaful Malaysia; however it was later transferred to Asean Retakaful International (L) Ltd. or ARIL on 7th Oct, 2001 until present. The appointment of ARIL serves to promote more memberships from Muslim countries using its international business contacts.
In order to accommodate memberships from outside ASEAN region, ATG amended its constitution during its 9th Annual Conference in Sri Lanka on 6th Oct, 2003, and formally changed to “Asian Takaful Group”.
Today it has expanded to 23 members from various countries, and continues to receive enquiries from many players to be a member.
At a recent annual conference in Dubai, it was agreed that the informal grouping be registered as a legal entity by incorporating it as a company limited by guarantee in Labuan and renamed "Global Takaful Group" (GTG).
The 12th Annual GTG conference took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 28th of August, 2007. Pak Kuwait Takaful Company being a new member of Global Takaful Group also participated in the meeting.
